English Oak TreeThe deciduous English Oak tree (Quercus Robur), AKA the Common Oak is one of the most commonly occurring tree in the British mainland. A healthy oak can live beyond 1'000 years. Scientists belive that it take them 300 years to grown, 300 years to live, and 300 years to die. The English Oak also hold the RHS Award of Garden Merit. The AGM is so gardeners can make the choice and choose a plant that is recommended for garden use. For healthy growth of an oak tree, it needs to have plenty of free space for it to anchor its roots. They can grow to massive 35 metres high and 25 metres wide. To seed, the Oak drops its acorns around summer, which are then taken away by animals (mainly squirrels), and then later buried to grow into new oak trees. Around November, the Oak sheds its leaves. The Oak enjoys full sunlight, but has adapted to grow in all conditions, including virtually all types of soil. An Oak tree is easy to spot by its leaves: each leaf has around five lobes on each side, gicing it a very distinctive pattern. Around the 16th century, the majority of forests in England were Oak. Oak wood is used today in ships, furniture and other general purpose uses. The bark can be used for tanning leather.
